If you have meta to submit or rec, please comment to this post or to the screened Submissions Post. If you'd like to give us blanket permission to link your meta please comment to the Blanket Permissions Post. If you have feedback or questions, check out our FAQ, Contact the Mods, or PM/email. If you'd like to volunteer to link-find or mod, please comment to the Volunteers Post.
A couple of changes: We've finally dropped the LJ flist after too many weeks of nothing. Please keep on submitting LJ meta if you find it/write it. But we won't be actively looking any more. (We will continue to post to LJ, never fear.) The flip side of that is Tumblr. Fandom's new (ish) playground is full of meta but we're not following as much of it as we could be. So if you know any good meta haunts on Tumblr, please submit them to us: either comment here, on the submissions post, send us an email or an ask! (Smoke signals are not recommended.)
General Fandom
An essay on Club Vivid: jarrow (LJ) - "My key point is this: I want to debunk the idea that just because a song is classified as “dance music" means that it's actually good to dance to in a live setting."
Teeny tiny linkspam on aromanticism: queenieofaces (tumblr) - "Someone asked for a teeny tiny linkspam on aromanticism, so here goes! And by “here goes" I mean “I fell into a rabbit hole of links for like two and a half hours and emerged covered in mud and clutching this linkspam; I am so sorry; you probably did not care this much.""
Untitled: septembriseur (tumblr) - "the fear of the Fake Geek Girl (because that’s what has given rise to the term: a perceived threat) is directly related to tensions surrounding the transition from an economy of knowledge that is focused on accumulation to an economy of knowledge that is focused on access."
If You Want to Get Angry, Watch This “Women In Refrigerators" Supercut: Sam Maggs (blog) - "When a woman is “fridged," it means that she has been killed or harmed for the plot or character advancement of a dude.“
Ripping Apart the Science Behind Weather Movies: Liz Suess (blog) - "There’s nothing better than watching a television show or film try and fail miserably at getting the technicalities behind a profession correct."
Sexualized Saturdays: Yet More Mystical Pregnancies: MadameAce (blog) - "We’ve talked about the Mystical Pregnancy trope before, and it should come as no surprise that we find it both sexist and horrific."
#FireRickRemender?: Thinking Through Gender, Disproportionate Aging & Sexual Consent in Superhero Comics: Osvaldo Oyola (blog) - "So here is the real question that arises for me from this kerfuffle: It is not about whether Rick Remender should be fired, but instead: How does the flow of time in superhero comics, with its sliding timescales, disproportionate aging, and alternate dimensions confuse and complicate issues of sex and consent in those long-running serials?"
Are Some Panel Layouts Inherently Superior to Others? (Groensteen and Page Layout Roundtable): Roy T. Cook (blog) - "This is the second installment in the PencilPanelPage roundtable on panel layout and Theirry Groensteen’s work (The System of Comics, Comics and Narration)."
Why Otakon Gave Me Some Frowny Emotes: Unacknowledged Social Issues in Anime: pantydragon (blog) - "Anime has many praiseworthy tropes, especially magical girls, as well as more than its fair share of problems with representation, but for whatever reason, neither positive nor negative commentary was brought to bear at Otakon."

Boyhood
The one scene in ‘Boyhood’ no one is talking about: Jaime Woo (blog) - "I left the theatre wondering if I had seen the same film as the critics, particularly in the way the lives of some secondary characters were portrayed."
The Giver
The Received Experience from The Giver: MadameAce (blog) - "The Giver offers little to nothing new in its narrative and instead adheres to the same annoying standards and minority erasure as every other movie out there. This is only made more disappointing because the movie’s intended message is the exact opposite of the one it sends."
Guardians of the Galaxy
Guardians of the Galaxy, We Need to Talk: Alex Brown (blog) - "TL;DR: I love the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Well, I love about 85% of it, and have serious reservations about a few key issues."
"I Forgot You Were Here." Guardians of the Galaxy, Storytelling, & Associated Face Punches: renay (DW) - "I love space adventure. I love found families."
Ouran High School Host Club
The Women Who Dress Like Men: Shoujo Staples of Anime and Manga - Part 3: Caitlin Donovan (blog) - "Our final entry in the trilogy of shoujo manga and anime where girls cross dress, challenge gender roles, and encounter lots of roses is Ouran High School Host Club."

Sandman
Oh, My Pop Culture Unchristianity: Sandman’s Humanizing Subversion of Common Christian Tropes: syngraphea (blog) - "See, I told you I was going to keep talking about Neil Gaiman’s Sandman comic series! Today I’m going to discuss three ways in which the series subverts the expectations of readers familiar with Christian lore."
Sherlock Holmes
Trading on the name…?: Alistair Duncan (blog) - "Over the years there have been many versions of Holmes and Watson but is there a point at which the characters are just trading on the name?"
Supernatural
[pauses in lady span to expose gross rape apologia]:selfihateyouithink (tumblr) - "People continue to be rape apologist, heterosexist/allosexist shitbags about (Meg’s predatory ways that Castiel tries to subtly reject AND) 9x03: in other news, gravity makes things fall."
[pauses in lady span to expose gross rape apologia]:ssjdebusk (tumblr) - " I feel like if it weren't for 9x03, people would feel better about destiel and be *much* more optimistic."
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Ninja Turtles 2014 in Context: Richard Rosenbaum (blog) - "It’s being ravaged by critics (then again, they always were) but believe it or not, there’s actually a whole lot to say about the Michael Bay-produced, Jonathan Liebsman-directed and Megan Fox-starring attempted blockbuster Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and where it fits in the overall context of the TMNT franchise’s thirty year history of global popularity and cultural influence."
Teen Wolf
TW409 - The Puppet and the Puppeteer: cupidsbower (tumblr) - "Plot twist! That was pretty great."
Untitled: theeggcamefirst (tumblr) - "Derek is losing his powers, essentially becoming human, but all I can think about is that (assuming whatever Kate did doesn’t result in death) there is a chance for Scott to get exactly what he’s been hoping for."

Healing Derek: poisontaster (tumblr) - "Okay, so I’m not saying that you have to ship Derek/Braeden, and I’m not saying you even have to like Derek/Braeden, but one argument that I have seen in many different places is this idea that “Derek needs to heal/heal more before he should be getting into a relationship.""
Walking Dead
Robert Kirkman Comments on Rumors That The Walking Dead’s Daryl Dixon Might Be Gay: Victoria McNally (blog) - "Daryl Dixon is the ruggedly-pretty-boy darling of The Walking Dead, but he hasn’t actually gotten a whole lot in the way of romantic or sexual attention in the show itself."
Yowamushi Pedal
This summer, Japanese anime fans are going cycling: Aja Romano (blog) - "The latest anime to do just that is “the cycling anime," Yowamushi Pedal. Yowapeda, as it’s affectionately known to fans, may be an unlikely subject to garner a devoted fandom on both sides of the Pacific; but that’s just the first of many surprising things about the Yowapeda fandom."
