Yay meta! Happy to see someone stirring the waters again :)

This might be obvious, but you guys are aware of month_of_meta? Not sure if it'll be running again this year, but people are free to post whatever, whenever, and there were lots of great essays last year.

Also, the Inuyasha fandom has a newsletter comm on LJ - sengoku_times. It updates weekly.

ETA - And there is a periodic small fandoms newsletter, fandom_of_one/fandom_of_one. It's mostly fic notices and the like, but I think the curator will link to anything having to do with rare/small/obscure fandoms, so it might be worth a look :)
